To the Editor:
New Hampshire Right to Life, and former state representatives Barbara Hagan and Kathleen Souza, should be commended for their opposition to the proposed merger of Catholic Medical Center in Manchester with the Granite State’s largest abortion provider, Dartmouth Hitchcock Health, (Abortion opponents protest proposal, 2/8/2020).
Dartmouth Hitchcock’s proposed three-fifths control of the governing board of the new combined entity raises serious considerations about the continued religious identity of Catholic Medical Center and the ability of New Hampshire residents to access medical care infused with an ethic of life.
Manchester Bishop Peter Libasci’s rejection of pro-life concerns, while failing to answer specific objections, is profoundly disappointing. It should not, however, deter supporters of the right to life from opposing this troubling, uncertain and severely problematic proposal.
Sincerely,
C. J. Doyle
